Just a "zebra" trying my best to live life to the fullest with EDS and POTS...and loving the ride.

Five For Friday 9/18/15

I sat down to type and immediately thought to myself, “What DID happen this week?” I’ll tell you what happened. My pre-schoolers started school on Tuesday and joined my kindergarteners. Whew. What a whirlwind…A tired, funny, crazy, messy, beautiful blur…

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 1 Day of PT. I am continuing to do a lot of cervical strengthening and joint preservation exercises.
  • 1 Day of Home Rehab. Treadmill and floor strengthening.
  • I saw Larry on Tuesday. He mostly worked on my neck and jaw. Holy pain when he goes into my mouth to release my jaw. But it always works…Larry also renewed my handicap sticker. I always have mixed feelings about this. I don’t like the times when I need to use it (at all), but I am very grateful to have it. It has made life easier and has helped me feel less sick on many occasions.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 2 Days of PT. We discussed doing four more weeks of two sessions a week, and then going back to trying just one day a week.
  • 1 Day of Home Rehab.
  • I saw my gyno on Tuesday for some lady stuff  irregularities. Blood work and ultrasound checked out fine. Thank you lord.
  • Fatigue! I forgot what’s it like to wake up at 6 everyday, teach, AND rehab. Time to retrain my body. Needless to say, September is one of my toughest months. It is one of the months, I do not commit to anything extra until I can make sure I am doing okay with just teaching and maintaining my health.

Hello, September!

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 2 Days of PT. We are really working on my cervical strength.
  • 1 day of Home Rehab.
  • A friend told me about how they love their Fisher Wallace Stimulator. Anyone else have any experiences with this, feedback, etc? I’m interested.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 1 Day of PT. I learned my muscles in the front of my neck are weaker than WEAK, and are in desperate need of retraining.
  • 1 Day of Home Rehab.
  • I saw my shrink on Thursday. 15 years together and going strong…I say it a lot. Working on mental health is just as important as working on physical health. No shame in that game.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 2 Days of PT. Holy cow, it’s a workout. So far, it has been a wonderful balance of cardio, strengthening, and manual medicine. And for the record, I hate planks. Hate them.
  • 1 Day of Home Rehab.
  • I saw Larry on Tuesday. Like every August, we did my medical accommodation letter for the upcoming school-year. Larry also did quite a bit of work on my ribs. I felt like I could move and breathe afterwards. I’m feeling pretty thankful for my medical team these days.
