Calling BS #NHBPM Carnival
Umm, so about that post everyday thing during the month of November…I fell off the wagon. I’m going to try and pick up where I left off…
Today’s topic is:
Call BS on something. What’s something that is just ridiculous?
Well, I have a couple. I’m going to try and make this short and sweet.
#1: That there is not one insurance that I know of that will cover prolotherapy. Insurances view prolotherapy as experimental, so it is not recognized as a necessary treatment. However, it has been proven time and time again to provide relief to so many people with chronic pain problems, which have not been able to be corrected with other more expensive, insurance covered, treatments. Further, my insurance (thankfully if I ever needed it) would pay for a neck fusion that would cost them thousands and thousands of dollars. I find this kind of backwards since I am trying to avoid this extremely expensive surgery by having prolotherapy treatments, which are MUCH cheaper if you were to compare the two. Prolotherapy has also been around a lot longer than most of the other treatments out there that are covered. I was once told that prolotherapy was nicknamed the “caveman’s surgery.” Also, I have heard from many people who want to try it, but who cannot afford it. One woman told me, she has instead been forced to take narcotics for her pain, because they are covered by her insurance, and prolotherapy is not. It just does not seem right. Maybe someday we will see a change. One can hope.
#2: That I was told a while back that I would have to be discharged from physical therapy because I was doing better, and back to work half-time. BS. The reason I was doing better and able to be working again was largely due to PT. Thankfully my doctors and I fought this one, and I have been able to continue.
