Five For Friday 2/14/14

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 2 Days of Home Rehab.
  • I was supposed to have PT on Tuesday but when I showed up, I was told to go home due to having a fever and a sinus infection.
  • I saw Larry on Tuesday before my scheduled therapy appointment. I had been feeling yucky so when the nurse told me I had a fever, I was not surprised. In addition to having the usual cranial and back OMM, Larry also wrote me a prescription to take care of my sinus infection. I am happy to say I am feeling much, MUCH better now.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 3 Days of Home Rehab. I upped my incline on the treadmill by two levels this week to try to get more of a burn in my legs. I know that for me, the stronger my legs are, the better I do with both, pain control and POTS sickness. I’ll be back at PT on Monday.
  • I had my December Larry appointment on Tuesday, which included lots of cranial and jaw OMM. One of the residents came in to talk to me first. I could tell I was confusing the poor guy more and more, as I answered his questions. When he left the room to see if Larry was ready, I heard him say to someone, “I have never seen someone like her before. I think I need some help with this patient.” Ha! In my opinion, at least he could admit it, and asked for guidance. I think it would be better if more doctors had the courage to do so.  SIDE NOTE: I have experienced a lot of pain in my life, but jaw OMM has to be up there with the worst. Holy tears in my eyes. It is amazing though how much better I feel afterwards.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 3 Days of Home Rehab. My PT is in North Carolina so I was on my own this week.
  • It was a POTSy, insomnia week. It never fails. My monthly womanly visitor=insomnia and increased POTS symptoms. Not cool. Not cool at all.
  • I saw one of my OMM doctors on Friday. She did some intense cranial work which always makes me feel better. She is also really pushing for me to go gluten-free for six weeks to see how I feel. Are there any other EDS’rs or POTSies out there who have thoughts or experiences about this? My doctor believes it would be beneficial in calming my sympathetic nervous system down since I already know I have a gluten sensitivity, and with having POTS, my autonomic nervous system is already out of whack.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • No PT appointments because of parent-teacher conference nights. I was on my own this week.
  • 3 Days of Home Rehab.
  • My ribs were much more cooperative this week. I didn’t have to resort to ace wrapping them into place to survive. Thank. God.
  • I had an OMM appointment. My doctor commented on how “twitchy” my body felt as she worked on me. She explained that that is what it usually feels like when it is in a flare, which made sense to me since I have been flaring quite a bit lately. She made me promise I would get good rest and take time to recover this weekend.

Five For Friday 10/18/13

It’s the last Five For Friday while I’m still 31! I know I am getting older because I just found my first gray eyebrow hair yesterday. Gah! I plucked that baby real fast. I probably can’t blame it on EDS…or can I…???

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 2 Days of treadmill work on my own. Plus weights, balance work, and floor work.
  • 1 Day of PT. I spent most of the session working out on the Alter-G (anti-gravity) treadmill at a higher incline and pace. My PT did some cranial OMM, and also checked to make sure I am firing my scaps and glutes properly.
  • I just have two more days on my antibiotics. I am feeling much more human, or I guess I should say I am back to feeling like my “zebra” self again. That’s a good thing.
