Five For Friday 2/12/16

1. Medical Stuff:

  • I’m not gonna sugar coat. This has been a rough week with neck, face, upper back, and jaw pain. I missed two days of school and went on an unplanned trip to Indiana to get prolotherapy injections. I have been on my heating pad more than I have not. I have puked from the pain. I have backed off from rehab to try and get things to calm down. I am working on not freaking out.
  • 1 Day of Home Rehab. No PT.
  • Prolotherapy on Monday. I messaged my doc on Sunday about my pain and was in his office Monday morning. After 60ish injections, I was on my way back to Michigan. I’m extremely grateful for docs who will make time for patients, and will do what they can to try and get to the bottom of the pain.
  • I saw Larry on Tuesday for OMM. I showed him the specific spot on my neck that has been giving me a lot of pain, including shooting pain into my left eye and lots of headaches. He is thinking it is occipital neuralgia, which is giving me ocular migraines. I did get some relief from him using gentle manipulation in that area. Ahhhh. Fun times…: )
  • I saw my shrink on Thursday. It was a much needed appointment, and I walked out of the office with a much better perspective. And a much better ability to breathe in and out.

Five For Friday 3/6/15

Written by Katie. Posted in Five For Friday

Whew! What a week! If I’m being honest, I do not think I’ve been this happy to see a Friday in a long time. I don’t think I’ve had this many tears in a long time.

BUT, if I were to find a positive in all of it, it is that I made it. And I’m smiling, and the sun is out, and I have two legs, and my family and friends are the best, and I have a job that I love, and I have medical insurance, and, and, and…Perspective, my friends. Sometimes I forget.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 1 Day of PT. Lots of cranial work. Lots.
  • 2 Days of Home Rehab.
  • My echo-cardiogram was normal! Thankful!
  • My glasses saga continues. I took my glasses back to the eye doc. Long story short, they are getting made for a third time.
  •  I saw my shrink on Thursday. Fabulous timing.
  • A week of POTSy insomnia.  I keep repeating my mantra; it will pass…it WILL pass.
  • Day 9 of my left eye twitching. I told my Mom I think it’s Ebola. She laughed at me.

Just Another Curveball

It’s no secret that I have been struggling with the ups and downs of POTS the last few months. More so than I have in a long time.

I’ve received a lot of questions, phone calls, emails, and concern from my amazing loved ones, so I thought it would be a good time to put a blog post out there. Plus, I miss writing.  It’s a wonderful way to communicate, help others understand, and to spread awareness which I believe in with all of my heart. Plus, it is simply a cathartic thing for me.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 1 Day of PT.
  • 1 Day of Home Rehab…on the brand new, beautiful, FIXED treadmill.
  • I had to take Tuesday off from school. I wasn’t sleeping enough, my heart rate was too high, and I started to notice more blood pooling than usual, which are usually red flags that I need to slow down and rest. Luckily, I slept three hours that afternoon, and did okay getting through the rest of the week.

1. Medical Stuff:

  • 1 Day of PT. Lots of scap firing exercises. These help strengthen my upper back and neck to stay out of my neck brace.
  • 2 Days of Home Rehab. Cardio done outside but the exciting news is, my Mom and Dad bought a treadmill last weekend (I usually go over to their house to workout). It just needs to be put together, and I’ll be good to go.
  • I saw Larry for my September appointment. He did OMM, and made sure my body was put together. We realized at this appointment that I had a fever, and likely a sinus infection. I was given an antibiotic.
  • I’ve been really struggling with energy and stamina. I’m hoping that my body continues to adjust to the day to day “grind” and the intense fatigue that I’m feeling will begin to lessen. Fingers crossed…
